CO2 is a new method of cleaning that is being touted as “green” and/or “organic” because it contains carbon. Please be aware that those dry cleaners that are touting their CO2 system as being green may not be as environmentally friendly as they say they are. Some drycleaning systems that say they use CO2 actually use a solvent called propylene glycol as the main cleaning compound. The CO2 is used to “scrub” this chemical from the clothing. CO2 in itself does not do the majority of the cleaning and cannot be used on any garment which contains the fabric acetate, it will ruin it. These garments must be cleaned by some other method.
