What is this new analog modem 56K technology?

0

This new technology allows 28.8/33.6 modems to download at 56Kbps. Uploading speeds will remain same at 28.8/33.6Kbps. There are two standards right now: U.S. Robotics X2 standard and Rockwell Semiconductor’s 56K FLEX. There is no current industry standard for these similar technologies. The biggest difference between the two standards are that USR’s X2 will only upload data up to 28.8Kbps while Rockwell’s 56K FLEX will upload data up to 33.6Kbps. Another difference is the Rockwell’s 56K Flex seems to get a higher download transfer rates than USR’s X2 although neither have been proven to truly get 56Kbps.
