Wilmington, known as “The Credit Card Capital of the World” or “A Place to Be Somebody,” has a population of about 70,000 inhabitants spread over a territory of 17.0 mi² (44 km²). Delaware’s largest city sits on the edge of two rivers and has a vibrant water life on the Wilmington Riverfront. Wilmington is also one of the few American cities where the African American population is almost two times larger than the white population. European immigrants are also a strong force in the city, especially immigrants from Italy, Greece, and Poland.
