What is their principal of operation – ie how do they work?
When the gas stream laden with particulate such as dust or ash passes through the area where the very high high voltage electrodes are housed, the high voltage electrodes transfer electrons to the particulate. In other words, the electrodes transfer a negative electrical charge to the particles or mist being carried within the airstream. As the particles in the gas stream continue downstream towards the stack exit, they next pass through the area where positively charged plates reside. In this area the particles are attracted by these positively charged plates and the particulate or mist end up sticking to the metallic plates.
