What is the zoning of the property and are ski type lakes and clubs allowed?
The zoning is Diverse Agriculture, DA. Ski lakes are not mentioned in the DA zoning but water management and commercial ponds are allowed with permits as are hunting clubs, golf courses, driving ranges, landing strips and commercial equestrian facilities. The BZA can, at their descretion allow similar uses, particularly if there is a specific need and there is no Significant impact on the environment or agricultural use of the property. In Sonoma County there is only one public lake to ski on, Lake Sonoma. There is no slalom water ski course there and the safety record is questionable as are the facilities which are often poorly maintained, overcrowded, and not conducive to safe water recreation. The weather and water conditions there are usually not conducive to serious slalom practice or for young children to learn to ski.
