The Zone diet is a low-carbohydrate and low-fat diet that puts the macro-nutrients into a ratio of 40 to 30 to 30. So, you have each meal be part-carbohydrate, part-protein and part-fat: 40 percent carbohydrate, 30 percent protein, 30 percent fat. It’s a lifestyle approach; it is reasonable because there is sufficient research behind it, so that I can feel comfortable as a doctor to recommend it.
