What is the Zionist Congress?
Following the tradition of the first Zionist Congress assembled by Herzl in Basel in 1897, the Zionist Congress convenes every five years in Israel to set the policies of the World Zionist Organisation. Considered the “Parliament of the Jewish People”, the 35th Zionist Congress is scheduled to take place in June 2006. In Britain, delegates are chosen in an election held prior to the Congress. The British delegation has a major impact on setting policy.
