What Is The Yearning For Zion Ranch And Where Is It Located?
The Yearning for Zion Ranch is a 1,700 acre compound near the town of Eldorado, in southern Texas, which is owned and operated by the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS). The FLDS Church, with a membership of over 6,000 followers, is best known in the media for practicing polygamy and for forcing teenage girls to marry much older men in the community. The organization’s leader was Warren Jeffs, who was arrested by US authorities in August 2006 and charged with rape and for sexual conduct with a minor. The Yearning for Zion Ranch was opened in 2004 and is characterized by a massive, 26,000 sq. foot house, made of white stone. The house looks like a fortress and served as Jeffs’ home. The compound also includes a temple, several smaller houses and facilities for waste treatment. The Eldorado Success newspaper presented detailed updates on the progress of the construction of the compound throughout 2004. It is very difficult, or altogether impossible to find
