I would have to say that the worst thing about living in Taiwan is getting use to the traffic and getting use to a different style of diet, and unless you have a decent level of Chinese language skills the not know what people are saying around you. However on the positive sides these things only last for a short while, the traffic you never actually get use to it you just accept it. Matt is correct in pointing out that you shouldn’t take the traffic lightly here. It is A~~backwards compared to the US and Canada. And caution should be paid at all times! The food takes about 1-3 months depending on your normal diet of foods to get use and how adventurous an eater you are. For me it took about 3 months to get use to being submerged entirely in Chinese and another 3 months to take my Chinese skills from what I learned in school to practical everyday use. These were the major stepping stones for me to accept my life in Taiwan. Now I love it and have a hard time imagining living any
