What Is The Worst Storm In History?

The worst recorded storm in British history was on 22nd November 1703. The hurricane distroyed the south of England winds reaching upto 80 mph. With nearly 9,000 people killed. Floods were reported almost everywhere and an estimated 15,000 sheep were drowned in the south west alone. The British fleet was decimated with some 8,000 sailors and hunderds of ships lost including 4 Royal Navy men-of-war. 500 ships were in trouble off the coast of Norfolk some sunk, others driven off. Of those driven off some made it to ports in Denmark and Normandy though some were never heard from again. London did get away undamaged ~ the steeple of every church suffered some damage. Queen Anne is reported to have stood at the window and watched as the trees in St James’ Park where uprooted. Communication was a major factor in the deaths, as most people would not have known what was about to hit them. Even if they had studied the sky they may have known there would be gales but there was nothing to prepare
