What is the worlds tallest cactus?
It is impossible to say for certain, plants can both grow and die so the record holder can change, and anyway no-one has visited and measured every tall cactus to make sure. It is generally accepted that the tallest growing species is Pachycereus pringlei (the Cardon cactus), one of which was measured in the Sonoran Desert of Baja California at about 19.2 metres (63 feet). Other contenders include Carnegiea gigantea (the Saguaro) which have been measured at up to 17.6 metres (58 feet) in the Maricopa Mountains of Arizona, USA.
