What is the worlds most powerful sniper rifle?
The prototype Barrett XM-109 25mm Objective Sniper Weapon (OSW) ‘Payload Rifle’ fires a round almost twice as big as the .50 calibre round out to an effective range of 1.2 miles and a maximum range of 2.2 miles. A 25mm APDS (armour piercing discarding sabot) round would easily penetrate most IFV (infantry fighting vehicle) including the Bradley, while also capable of destroying MBT (main battle tank) optical systems and external communications systems. The Chey-Tac ‘Intervention’ M200 .408 calibre rifle has an effective range equal to the XM-109 but as the round is much smaller and lighter, it is not as “powerful”.
