What is the work done by Credibility Alliance in enhancing NGO credibility, so far ?
We are very clear about our approach. Such a good effort by Mr. Bunker Roy came to nothing, because it was top down in approach. Therefore, the approach that Credibility Alliance has taken is rather bottom-up. We have been consulting large number of people, which makes us go slow. After several small group sessions in July 2002, we had our first major meeting at TISS, where “Draft Norms for Enhancing Credibility in the Voluntary Sector, In India” came into being. The draft outlines minimum norms for the organisations to follow to build their credibility. Initially, this effort was channelised by Child Line, and the mantle was later taken on by VANI. There were more then 75 meetings involving 2000 organisations. This was followed by a national-level meeting at Gandhi Peace Foundation in November 2003, where a whooping 97% of the organisations felt the need for credibility norms. An increasing need was felt to convert the network structure of the alliance to an institutional structure. M
