What is the work being done now – wasn’t there already a Ports to Plains study?
The Ports to Plains Corridor Preliminary Feasibility Study done in 1998 identified and evaluated various alternative highway routes for the proposed corridor. That study recommended the route that is the focus of our current work. The route is still general in nature as opposed to a specific roadway. As an example, a relief or loop could go east or west of a city depending on local decisions. What we are doing now is developing a plan for the route’s actual development – outlining needed improvements, environmental impacts, financing alternatives and marketing strategies for the corridor in order to encourage use of the route.
