What is the Wireless Service Module (WiSM)?

The Cisco WiSM works in conjunction with Cisco Aironet Series lightweight access points (LAPs), the Cisco Wireless Control System (WCS), and the Cisco Wireless Location Appliance to deliver a secure and unified wireless solution that supports mission-critical wireless data, voice, and video applications. The Cisco WiSM uses one slot in a Catalyst 6500 Series Switch. The Cisco WiSM provides the control, scalability, and reliability that IT managers need to build secure, enterprise-scale indoor and outdoor 802.11 wireless networks. From voice and data services, location tracking, and Wireless Mesh networks, the Cisco WiSM enables enterprises to create and enforce policies that support business-critical applications.
