The WAE is the part of the WAP protocols that application and service developers will be using most in their work. It essentially consist of the WML and WMLScript specifications as well as the Wireless Telephony Application Interface (WTAI) that specifies how WAP applications can access mobile phone functionality (e.g. initiate a call, send an SMS, etc).
