What is the Western India Automobile Association (WIAA)?
The Western India Automobile Association, which was started by a handful of citizens in Mumbai in 1919, is today the largest and oldest motoring body with over 45,000 members. To promote and safeguard the interests of motorists, where they could voice their views and concerns regarding safety and other road related matters to the authorities, it renders various associated services to motorists, including workshops, open forums, awareness drives, etc. Besides providing these additional facilities to its members, the WIAA has made a dedicated effort to strengthen its equation with various government authorities these past decades. These authorities, in turn have not only acknowledged the activities and the role of the WIAA, but have also lent a receptive ear on matters relating to road taxes, traffic engineering and management and even promotion of tourism. The scope of WIAA’s activities soon spread from Mumbai to other major cities like Nagpur, Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Goa. The Pune branch
