What is the Western Australian College of Teachings role?
The College is a professional organisation with a responsibility to recognise, promote and regulate the teaching profession. To be able to teach in Western Australian schools, all teachers must provide evidence that they: • have approved teaching qualifications; • are proficient in the English language; • have completed the College Criminal Record Check; and • have working rights in Australia. One of the roles of the College is to validate all this information, enabling applicants to become members. Members then have the right to apply to teach in the Government, Catholic or Independent sector. In addition, the College: • promotes all of the teaching profession Western Australia, irrespective of whether teachers work in the Government, Independent or Catholic sectors; • works with universities to ensure that initial education programs prepare teachers for Western Australian schools; • supports beginning, returning and experienced teachers into the profession; researches and keeps the p
