What is the WELS Rating?

0

All shower heads sold in Australia are now required to be labelled with their WELS (Water Efficiency Labelling Scheme) rating which shows how water efficient they are. The WELS Scheme applies to showers intended solely for personal bathing. Under the WELS scheme showers generate about 25 per cent of water savings because: • A standard showerhead uses about 15 to 25 litres of water per minute whereas a four star rated water efficient showerhead uses as little as 6 or 7 litres per minute. • A standard showerhead uses at least 60 litres of water per four-minute shower whereas a water efficient model uses less than 36 litres or 40 per cent less water • Installing a water-efficient showerhead saves about 7,200 litres per household each year. A WELS rating of 3 stars means a flow rate of 9 litres per minute or less.
