The web shield is a new service which has been part of avast! Pro since version 4.6. This service scans all HTTP communication with Web servers. It acts like an HTTP proxy on your PC. All communication passes through this service and downloaded data is checked for viruses. The browser only receives safe content and malicious content is blocked before being saved to the computer drive or run.
