What is the weather like in West Texas during mid-August?

West Texas is hot and mostly very dry, except in the southwest. Very dry, as you go further west, which actually makes the heat much less a problem. I grew up in Houston and then Las Cruces NM, and we spent a lot of time traveling through and camping in W Texas – as a kid I loved it. A few years ago I lived in Southern California, and made the drive from LA to Houston and back a few times – and I found that I still find the vistas and weather of W Texas breath taking. August is an extraordinarily hot month in W Texas. If you’re traveling through, take lots of water and, surprisingly, blankets – as hot as it gets in the daytime, it can be very, very cold at night.
