What is the weather like in Dharamsala? Is it heavily affected by the monsoon?
The weather in Dharamsala, like everywhere, varies from season to season. The hottest period is between April and late June, and temperatures reach a maximum of around 38C in June. Then follows the monsoon, which lasts from early-mid July to the start of September. During monsoon time you can expect heavy rain to commence at a moment’s notice, and you should be prepared for sudden downpours by carrying a raincoat or umbrella. Following the end of the monsoon season the weather becomes clear and bright; late September to early November is a good time for trekking nearby due to the cool but bright weather and generlly clear skies. Winter begins in around mid November and lasts until March and temperatures in December and Janurary can hit freezing, with the chance of snow.
