What is the Water Conservation Plan?
The Water Conservation Plan is a five-year strategic plan that identifies and evaluates programs we should offer and support in an effort to achieve our community’s long-term water conservation goals. The plan is an essential component of our overall Water Integrated Resource Plan, which sets long-term direction to ensure a sustainable supply of safe water for our community.Since the drought and implementation of water restrictions in 2002, the residents of Colorado Springs have become very conscious about water use.Why is it needed? • We have a responsibility to optimize water resources and to plan for adequate and reliable infrastructure to meet customer needs. • The State of Colorado requires water conservation plans be approved by the Colorado Water Conservation Board under §37-60-126 C.R.S. The Water Conservation Act of 2004 amended §37-60-126 C.R.S. to include additional requirements.
