What is the Virginia Gold Cup?
The Virginia Gold Cup steeplechase races are a grand spring tradition as well as a fixture on the social calendar in Virginia. Run in Fauquier County since 1922 and attended by over 50,000 spectators, this race is one of the largest and most popular sporting events in the greater Washington metropolitan area. Race day features six hurdle and timber horses races, Jack Russell Terrier races, tent, tailgate and hat contests, and over 30 vendor booths for shopping. What should I wear? Several different attires are found at the races. Men s attire ranges from comfy khakis and blazers to classy suits and ties. Ladies attire ranges from sundresses and extravagant hats to slacks and a nice top. Whatever attire you decide is sure to mesh with the crowd. Please remember that races run rain or shine so extra outerwear is advised. The area is fully turf therefore stiletto and spike heels are not advised.
