The sunset provision is the reference in the CMS Interpretive Guidelines 482.24(c)(1)(i), which notes that it is acceptable for another practitioner who is responsible for the patient’s care to authenticate the verbal order of the ordering practitioner for a temporary period expiring on Jan. 26, 2012. You’ll also see that mentioned in TJC’s RC.02.03.07, EP 4, Note 2.
