What is the Value Of Using SOI CMOS Technology?
Honeywell’s Silicon On Insulator (SOI) CMOS microwave technology provides several key discriminators. First, this technology is designed for mixed signal integration. The process architecture provides excellent passive elements (several controlled resistor sheet rhos, linear caps, and high Q inductors), dense digital CMOS gates, linear CMOS functions, and of course the high performance microwave FETs, which, together can dramatically reduce the space it takes for the RFICs in your product. Secondly, the semi-insulating substrate provides similar device to device isolation to Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) technology but at lower cost. Like GaAs, SOI CMOS uses FET switches which are attractive components for some designs over Silicon Germanium (SiGe) bipolar devices. Lastly, the integrating capability of SOI CMOS technology could enable you to achieve lower operating power (at the same Ft and operating frequency) than GaAs technologies, which could extend battery life in wireless handheld appl
