What is The Vagina Monologues?
V-Day at UCSD is part of a larger international campaign that puts on the production of The Vagina Monologues, a play with largely set monologues and a few optional ones, written by Eve Ensler, every February. V-Day is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations. Any group of people can choose to put it on, internationally. All of the proceeds go to social justice groups, specifically local groups that focus on women’s rights. 90% goes to a local organization chosen by the group of people putting the show on, and 10% of ALL of the productions’ fees from around the world go to an international cause chosen by VDay every year. The Vagina Monologues at UCSD is a network of folks who grow close and support one another while discussing feminism, learning about the VDay movement and local feminist organizations, and putting on the show and raising as much money as possible!
