What is the usual procedure for dealing with a difficult student situation?
We suggest that a teacher begin with his/her coordinator, who will help to devise strategies for dealing with the student if this is an appropriate way to handle the situation. Coordinators will also help determine whether the problem can and should be handled by the teacher, internally within the program, or externally. If the problem can be handled internally, the teacher and coordinator should contact an Assistant Director who will help to determine the best course of action. This could take a number of forms, probably the most common being mediation between teacher and student. Teachers should keep good written records of exchanges with their students. This, and following these guidelines, will enable the Program to support a teacher to the fullest extent.
