What is the User Framed -Value Added process?
The approach used by MTU and the planning consultants at Northern Lights is called User Framed-Value Added. The process requires the involvement of the major user groups on campus (faculty, students, administration, staff) in discussions focusing on how they do their work (teaching, studying, research). Librarians gather and analyze data in regards to print/electronic publishing patterns; cost, availability and trends by discipline; circulation figures; in-house/reshelving use of collections; any use of online resources data; anticipated collection growth; ILL and document delivery; and gate counts and/or building use. Based upon the users? patterns of behavior, research tools, services, and trends, the library is able to define enhanced models of service and methods for adding value to the processes (ease of use, system relevance, quality, adaptability, time savings, cost savings).
