What is the US education system like?
Easy answer: crap. Better answer: Our school system begins with preschool for students around the ages of 4-5. After that they go on to elementary school, which is typically kindergarten, followed by grades 1 through 5. Some school systems consider 6th grade part of elementary school; this is less common nowadays. After that, students move to middle school, encompassing grades 6 through 8; alternatively, they go to junior high school, which is grades 7 through 9. Next comes high school, grades 9 through 12 (except in cases where 9th grade is junior high, then it’s just 10-12). Then they graduate and go on to college. “College” in American English is a term interchangeable with “university,” meaning a 4-year institution of higher learning. I’m not really sure what the best analogue is for what you consider “college,” possibly community college or trade school.
