The Urban Renewal Authority was enacted by Congress in 1971 and Shawnee was one of the first Cities to become and entitlement city receiving an annual allocation from the Federal government. CDBG stands for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). Federal funding is received from the U.S. Housing and Urban Development Office under Title 1 of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974.
