What is “The Uncle Tom Routine”?
The Uncle Tom Routine is a Minstrel-Show performance done by a white man in blackface. Typically the show opens with ‘Jump Jim Crow’ and falls further into the gaping a**hole of Satan as the show goes on. A more obscene and racist show would be hard to imagine, and this dates back to the 19th century, where it was APPARENTLY A RIOT among the rich and white aristocracy. Interestingly, The rich and white aristocracy also did a lot of heavy drugs. ‘Uncle Tom’ refers to the book ‘Uncle Tom’s Cabin’ by Harriet Beecher Stowe. Uncle Tom is a character who is interpreted as “sympathetic and helpful to the White Folks”. This gave rise to Uncle Tom as a racial slur describing someone not determined to be ‘black enough’ by speech mannerism, action and social status. Ironically, the novel is anti-racist.
