What is the U.S. wildfire forecast for the summer?
The National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) hasn t released its official summer wildfire forecast yet, but they have issued a forecast for March through June. Areas most at risk for significant wildfires this spring include the Desert Southwest, the northern Rockies, the northern Plains, the Blue Ridge Mountains, and portions of southern Georgia and Florida. Areas with below normal risk include most of Texas, Louisiana, and parts of New Mexico, Mississippi and Alabama. This pdf map from the NIFC shows the latest seasonal wildland fire potential outlook.
