What is the typical funding scenario for PhD students in the CISE department ?
Manas: Most PhD students have guaranteed funding [TA] for their first year. After that most of them are able to either get a RA or are still supported via a TA by the department. Venkat: A lot of PhD students in CISE are guaranteed a TA for the first year, in their initial offer itself. After the first year, they are expected to get an RA, or be recommended for TA. Since the department gives priority to funding PhD students, funding scene is better than that for MS students.
