What is the typical age for someone to join the Australian army?

You’ll likely be average aged. The Army lifestyle and benefits attract quite a few older characters. Besides, the Army prefers applicants to be slightly older – more life experience and skills to bring to the organization.A 20-ish bloke from the work force is going to have an easier time of things than an 18 year old lad straight out of high school who didn’t learn how to iron or do the laundry before showing up. And yes, the Reserves tends to have quite a few older guys. The dedicated soldiers tend to stay for decades, often meaning junior diggers have a long wait for their first hook. Guess it’s because we have civilian lives to look forward to after each exercise. Oh well, pay no attention to my ramblings. 22 is a good age.
