What is the TUCs equal opportunities policy?
The TUC recognises that discrimination in society is widespread and that employment practices often discriminate against groups of employees, particularly women and ethnic minority workers. They campaign for justice for people who face discrimination at work and advise unions and employers on ways that they can achieve equal opportunities. You may have heard about some of the high profile campaigns the TUC have been running on equal opportunities – like the ‘Respect Festival’ which they hold in the summer to celebrate multi-cultural diversity or their campaign calling for rights for part-time workers. The ‘Respect Festival’ in July 2003 was held at the Millennium Dome in Greenwich, London. It was organised jointly by the Mayor of London, trade unions and the National Assembly Against Racism, and marked the tenth anniversary of the racist murder of Stephen Lawrence.
