The theological concept of “Trinity” is a defining ideology of the Christian Faith. God in three states-of-being. The traditional terms are “Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.” Contemporary theologians offer the terms “loving”, “caring”, “knowing.” Perhaps these say more to us today. In other words, a God who reflects to us a relationship framed in terms of being loving, caring, and knowing. Why is this important? It gives us a fuller understanding of God and helps guard against misguided impressions of God such as “God the accountant”, “God the miserable old man”, “God the sweet old man”, “God the one out to get you or punish you” and the list goes on . . . It is important to devote a Sunday when the readings and the ideas expressed focus on the fullness of our belief in God and the relationship we enjoy with transcendent other who embraces us with love, care, and wisdom.
