What is the Tree of Life Virus?
The TOL virus is an artificial biological agent which initiates certain drastic changes in late breeder-stage humans. The virus originates from the PAK homeworld, where it has become abundant in the wild, breeding in a certain type of tuber. Later developments by human protectors generated a mutant strain able to survive within the body of the protector itself, hence freeing it from its constant dependence on the specific species of tuber. The virus only affects hominids of very closely related ancestry, of the same line from Homo Habilis to Homo Sapiens.
