What is the treatment for oral thrush in babies?
In most cases, mild oral thrush infections in babies clear up after a few days without treatment. However, if there is concern, a visit to your doctor is recommended. Antifungal medicine If after medical evaluation it is decided that the baby needs treatment, an antifungal medicine called miconazole will probably be prescribed. It kills the fungus in the baby’s mouth. The dosage and length of treatment with miconazole will depend on the baby’s age. A second medical visit is recommended if the infection has not cleared after seven days. Treatment with miconazole may continue for another seven days. A different antifungal medicine called nystatin may be prescibed. Using baby medicine Miconazole gel is used for babies. Using a clean finger, spread the gel little by little on the affected areas of the baby’s mouth. To avoid the slight risk of choking, do not apply too much at once. Do not try to apply it to the back of the baby’s throat. Miconazole gel is available over-the-counter (OTC).
