What is the Trauma of Drinking, Drugs & Driving program?
This trauma prevention program is designed to educate high school students about the dangers of driving while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. It includes a video that takes the viewer through a series of scenes with an adolescent who begins a journey by celebrating with an illegal substance. The subsequent scenes include a vehicular crash, a trip to the emergency department, and finally the struggle to recovery. What are the program objectives? At the conclusion of the program, the participants should be aware of the following: 1) effects of alcohol and drugs on mental and physical performance related to the task of driving; 2) legal consequences of driving while under the influence; and 3) methods for coping with under the influence situations. What are the components of the program? The program is divided into four 10 minutes segments for a total of 40 minutes. However, this can be adjusted to meet the needs of each audience.
