What is the training of a music therapist?
Music therapists complete a bachelor, masters or doctoral degree in Music Therapy from an approved university. Courses include music, psychology, human biology, technology, behavioral sciences and clinical practicum experience. Course work is followed by 1040 hours of supervised clinical music therapy training. Upon completion students are eligible for a Board Certification exam, where they may be granted the credential MT-BC (Music Therapist – Board Certified). Continuing education credits are required to maintain certification.
