What is the train/bus route to travel from Herndon,VA to New York?
Well, from Herndon, you’d need to get into the city by bus (I think the Fairfax Connector 950 bus provides service to Metro stations on the Orange Line). Once you get into the city, you have plenty of options for getting to New York City. You can take Amtrak from Union Station (the most expensive option), or you can take a bus. Greyhound buses leave from their terminal Northeast D.C. (near Gallaudet University). The cheaper “Chinatown buses” leave from Gallery Place (typically H Street NW) and go direct to New York City. Time: About 7 hours via bus or 5-6 hours via train. Assuming you time it right, it will take about an hour to get from Herndon to the appropriate Metro station, about 30 minutes on Metro to get to Union Station, Gallery Place or Gallaudet and then roughly 5.5 hours on the bus or 4 hours by train (depending, of course, on the train).
