What is the traditional Szechuan or Cantonese breakfast?
Traditional probably means what my grandparents eat for breakfast. I’m Cantonese, and I supposed Szechuan breakfasts would be similar but with more dried fish and more spicy food. There are usually a few dishes, because Chinese people always have to have a few dishes at each meal. For breakfast, these are: 1. They eat rice porridge, which is just rice boiled in water until it goes very soft and fluffy. Everyone eats their porridge differently by adding different ingredients into it, ie, dried fish and peanuts, lean meat, preserved duck eggs, etc, but the porridge base is the same. 2. Plain Hokkien noodles stir-fried with soy sauce. 3. You Tiao (mandarin) or Yuw Jah Gwai (Cantonese) which is a fried bread stick. You can have a look at it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/You_tiao It’s usually cut up into pieces and dipped into the rice porridge. 4. Cheong Fun (Cantonese) which is a rice noodle roll with bits of eschallo
