What is the timeline for the development of a standard for additional audio tracks in the DCP?

Additional audio tracks, such as descriptive narration, should start to be supported this year (2011). Some studios are already including description tracks in DCPs. We note which films have access features in DCPs on the MoPix site. Play out of description tracks in digitally-equipped theaters currently requires additional equipment configuration to support the additional audio tracks. Once the SMPTE standards have been fully deployed to the field, no additional hardware or configuration will be required.
