What is the “Thesis Rule?
The so-called “thesis rule” is a clinical program rule that states that a student who has not completed the oral defense of the masters thesis by the beginning of his or her third year in the program can only enroll in thesis-related or required practicum coursework until such time as the thesis has been successfully defended. The intent of the rule is to encourage students to make steady progress toward completion of the thesis. As with all other “rules” the thesis rule can be appealed if the student feels s/he has just cause.
