It is individual to each person. Everyone has a different therapeutic level as it is based on the person’s size (height and weight) so that it isn’t toxic for that person – e.g. someone who is small and underweight will not be able to handle as much medication as someone who is of a normal weight/size. It takes time to work out what the best dose is for someone and so requires careful monitoring and blood tests to check it’s not causing problems due to being too high a level or an adverse affect to the medication.
