What is the theory of professional development of the nurses?
Each student progresses through stages of skills acquisition. By incorporating theory into practice; classroom, self directed and evidence based learning; and reflection on practice and experiance students develop professionally and personally. Patricia Benner’s “From novice to expert” gives an excellent example of professional development theory for nurses. There, student progressing though 5 stages from novice=beginer, advance beginner, competent, proficient and expert attain their learning goals and develop personally by self management and self regulation.
