On the muilitple choice section you do get deducted 1/4 of a point for wrong answers just like the SAT. In the free response section you have to write three essays in 2 hours (roughly 40 minutes per essay). Essay 1 will be on a prose passage you will have to analyze, Essay 2 will be on a poem or set of poems that you will again have to analyze, Essay 3 or the “free response” essay will give you a prompt on a general statement that can apply to many works of literature, you will then be given a list of novels and plays you can choose to write your essay on, you can also choose any work of “similar literary merit”. the main point of this essay is to test if you have actually read any english literature and are able to effectively discuss it.
