What is the temperature like in Sedona isn it hot in the desert?
Sedona is in the high desert and the temperatures are quite different than the more familiar Phoenix desert. Highs in the summer average 95 and might get higher during July and Aug; but the evenings cool down quickly and nicely to a perfect 75 or 80. Winters can get quite chilly but only if the sun isn’t shining. We experienced record rains in 2004 just about everywhere, across the nation, and Sedona was no exception. However, the high desert has been known to bring gentle snowfalls that can vanish underneath a blue sky the very next day! The sun is around just about everyday of the year in Arizona and provides for a pleasant experience to be outside during the day; but without the sun, the 4500 ft elevation quickly reminds you that the towering red rocks are not that much farther from heaven than you are, accompanied by conditions like shortness of breath on a seemingly easy hike and severe dry skin!
