What is the technical difference between a C band dish & a Ku band dish?
Ans: The principle of operation for both C & Ku band Dishes is the same. The Dish collects all signals received on its surface and focuses it on to the LNB Assembly. This is done irrespective of whether the signal is C or Ku Band. The wavelength of a 4GHz C band signal is appox. 25mm. For a Dish to effectively reflect and focus the signals onto the LNB Assembly, the shape of the Dish should perfectly match the design parabolic shape. As you can imagine, because of the shorter wave length of the Ku Band Signal, the tolerance of the Ku Band Dish is much tighter and more difficult to maintain than for the longer wave length C Band signals. The gain or the Amplification provided by the Dish actually depends on how much larger the Dish Antenna diameter is, compared to the wavelength of the signal.
